Released Hall of Fame announcer Vin Scully was released from the hospital in Los Angeles on Friday after bumping his head. The 82-year-old Scully went to the hospital Thursday as a precaution after he got up from bed too quickly, fell and hit his head, Dodgers spokesman Josh Rawitch said.

Suspended The U.S. Anti-Doping Agency says arbitrators in Colorado Springs, Colo., have decided cyclist David Clinger should be suspended for two years after a positive doping test. USADA said a urine sample collected July 30 tested positive for synthetic testosterone and the stimulant modafinil.

Departed Former U.S. high school basketball star Jeremy Tyle r quit Israeli team Maccabi Haifa and returned home, cutting short a disappointing first pro season. The 18-year-old Tyler arrived in Jerusalem in August after deciding to skip his senior year at San Diego High School to gain professional experience.

Needed Former PGA champion David Toms has been losing length off the tee that he can’t afford, and now he knows why. Toms said he has a bone spur in his rotator cuff that will require surgery. He plans to take medication to at least get through the Masters, and then will have arthroscopic surgery that will keep him out two months.

Withdrawn Olympic silver medalist Evgeni Plushenko will skip the World Figure Skating Championships in Italy after experiencing pain while landing a quadruple jump. The 27-year-old Plushenko is a three-time gold medalist at worlds, taking the title in 2001, 2003 and 2004.

Relieved Colorado Rockies closer Huston Street received encouraging news when the MRI exam on his ailing right shoulder revealed no structural damage. The MRI was done Wednesday in Tucson, Ariz., after Street felt tightness in his shoulder.

Extended Canucks center Ryan Kesler signed a six-year, $30 million contract extension that will keep him in Vancouver through the 2015-16 NHL season.

Fired Head basketball coach Norm Roberts was fired by St. John’s after six seasons – only two of them with a winning record. Athletic director Chris Monasch announced the dismissal two days after the Red Storm lost to Memphis in the first round of the NIT to complete a 17-16 season.
