Two escape burning mobile home west of Spokane

The Spokesman-Review
Two occupants escaped an early-morning fire that destroyed a mobile home just west of Spokane in Fire District No. 10. The fire broke out around 4 a.m. in the 6800 block of West Deno Road. One man escaped wearing only a coat and pants and no shoes, said Fire Chief Nick Scharff. A smoke detector apparently alerted the occupants to the fire. “The flames were through the roof when we arrived,” Scharff said. The 1970s-era single-wide mobile home was on a piece of property that was being used for horse ranching. Scharff said there were about 10 horses on the property. A pet dog inside the home did not survive, he said. No injuries were reported. The cause is under investigation. The American Red Cross was called to help with emergency relief for the residents.
