CV stays perfect with win over LC

 

Corey Mack pitched seven strong innings, allowing four runs on eight hits, and David Borgman added two hits and two runs as the Central Valley baseball team scored five in the fourth inning en route to beating host Lewis and Clark (2-2) 9-4 Thursday at Hart Field.

The Bears benefited from four LC errors to score nine runs, despite only collecting six hits, to run their Greater Spokane League-best record to 4-0.

In other GSL games, Spencer Ansett shut down University (3-1), allowing just one run on six hits while striking out eight as Ferris (1-3) won its first game of the season, 3-1 at Ferris. … Shadle Park (1-3) broke out for its first win of the season, tallying 20 hits to upend visiting North Central (2-2) 13-5. Danny Rowton went 4 for 4 with a double, a triple and four RBIs, while James Kent and John Winkler each added three hits for the Highlanders, who put the game away with a seven-run sixth. … Preston Van Doren doubled and homered, driving in three runs, as Mt. Spokane (4-0) dumped Gonzaga Prep (0-3) 8-2 at G-Prep. Carson Blumenthal earned the win, going five innings and shutting down the Bullpups allowing no runs after the second. … Levi Axworthy had three hits with a home run and four RBIs, Jake Schrader added a three-run home run and a double and Mead (2-0) scored nine runs in the first on its way to a 17-1 thumping of visiting Rogers (0-3).

Softball

Sam Pryor had three hits and two RBIs and Katherine Livley added two hits as North Central (1-3) scored five runs in the sixth to knock off host Central Valley (2-2) 8-3 and earn its first win of the Greater Spokane League season.

In other GSL games, Jill Pecka and Regin Gallagher each had three hits and combined for five runs scored as Mead (5-0) opened the first with eight runs and rolled to a 14-2, five-inning victory over Lewis and Clark (1-3) at Hart Field. … Breann Warren hit a two-run home run and University (5-0) scored six runs in the third to pull ahead for good, beating Ferris (1-4) 8-7 at U-Hi. Ashley Moon added a pair of doubles and an RBI for the Titans, while Ferris was led by two hits from Cassie Wendt. … Abby Ricco had three hits, including a home run, adding three runs and two RBIs, and Delaney Zalud earned the win for Mt. Spokane with five strikeouts in seven innings as the Wildcats (3-2) toppled Rogers (1-3) 10-2 at Rogers. … Tiffany Lucas allowed five runs on seven hits with nine strikeouts and East Valley (2-2) pulled ahead in the sixth with a pair of runs to beat visiting Shadle Park (1-4) 7-5. Morgan Mays went 3 for 3 for EV with a double.

Boys soccer

Mike Kelly did not enter the game for Pullman until the 71st minute, but in 9 minutes he scored a pair of goals to lift the Greyhounds (3-3, 3-1) over Great Northern League foe Clarkston (2-3, 1-3) 4-3 in Clarkston. Kevin Spangenberg added a pair of goals and two assists for Pullman, including the assist on the winning goal in the 79th minute.

In other GNL games, Gabe Lossurdo’s goal in the 68th minute snapped a scoreless tie to give Medical Lake (4-0, 4-0) the 1-0 victory over Deer Park (2-2, 2-2) in DP. The Stags outshot ML 15-5 but could not get by keeper Ian Graves, who logged 13 saves for the Cardinals. … Randall Harris and Usamah El-Bakkush each notched a pair of goals and West Valley (2-2, 2-2) romped to a 6-0 victory over Colville (0-4, 0-4) at WV. … Xavier Day scored three goals for the hat trick in leading host Cheney (4-1, 4-0) to a 5-0 win over Riverside (0-6, 0-4).
