Colville, Pullman split GNL doubleheader


Sawyer Bardwell pitched his way to a 12-2 victory for the Colville baseball team in the opener of its doubleheader against Pullman, but the Greyhounds’ Nickey Scourey made sure the day didn’t end in a sweep in Great Northern League play, striking out nine and allowing three hits over seven innings for a 12-1 win in the second game Saturday in Colville.

Bardwell had six strikeouts and allowed five hits in his win in the opener, also tallying three hits, including a triple, and an RBI.

Pullman’s Brett Druffel went 2 for 4 with four RBIs in the second game.

In other GNL league openers, Thomas Townsend finished the day with six hits – two doubles, a triple and a home run – as Cheney pounded out a pair of wins against Deer Park, 16-1, 14-1 at Deer Park. … West Valley (2-0) scored a combined 30 runs on 26 hits in a sweep over Riverside (0-2), winning 15-1 and 15-5 at Riverside.

Track and field

Ryan Sacksteder was named male track athlete of the Bonners Ferry Invite, and teammate Travis Porter won field athlete of the meet with wins in the high jump and triple jump as Timberlake piled up 172 points in a victory in Bonners Ferry.

Finishing second was Bonners Ferry with 127 points and third was Priest River (109.50).

The Timberlake girls also blew away the competition with 202.83 points as Ashley George led the way with wins in the 1,600-meter run (5:57) and 3,200 meters (12:37).

Bonners Ferry’s Erin Holt and Coeur d’Alene Charter’s Dominique Billingslea split the track athlete of the meet award, while CdA Charter’s Sabrina Ewing won the field athlete award with wins in the triple jump and high jump.
