Firefighters knock down apartment blaze on North Side

The Spokesman-Review
Spokane firefighters were at the scene of a fire at a multi-story building on the North Side. The fire call at 1:05 p.m. resulted in a full fire response, including connecting to a water supply line from a fire hydrant to fight the blaze. Firefighters at Wedgewood Avenue and Wiscomb Street described a smoky interior of the building in their radio transmissions, and they were evacuating residents of upper floors. The fire apparently started inside a lower floor. A building water pipe had burst and was being shut off. The neighborhood several blocks north of Francis Avenue and east of Division Street is filled with apartment buildings and a few retirement centers.
