North players honored

North Idaho boys and girls basketball players were well represented on All-Idaho teams announced Sunday by the Statesman newspaper in Boise.

In 5A boys, Post Falls senior guard Shawn Reid was named player of the year after leading the Trojans to the state championship. The 6-foot-4 Reid has signed with Montana State.

“Shawn Reid is the most versatile player in the state,” Post Falls coach Mike McLean told the Statesman.

Post Falls sophomore guard Marcus Colbert is on the first team.

•In 4A boys, Kyle Dranginis of Skyview, a junior guard who has given Gonzaga University an oral commitment, was named player of the year.

•In 3A boys, Priest River senior post Jake Weimer was named player of the yearafter leading the Spartans to the state title.

“Jake was the most dominant player that I saw in the (state) tournament,” his coach, Ryan Bodecker, said.

Priest River junior guard Eric Holbrook was selected to the first team.

•In 5A girls, three North Idaho players were named to the first team – Coeur d’Alene junior post Carli Rosenthal, Lewiston senior guard Nicole Redd and Post Falls senior guard Katelyn Loper.

•In 3A girls, Priest River junior forward Melissa Hopkins was named player of the year.

The 5-9 Hopkins averaged 17.5 points, 12 rebounds and four assists.

“She’s by far the best rebounder I’ve ever coached and a great leader on the court,” coach Gary Stewart said.

Priest River senior guard Taylor Stewart and Kellogg senior post Chelsea Morgan were named to the first team.

Gonzaga’s Mark Castellitto is the West Coast Conference player of the week after going 10 for 17 with four homers, 11 runs scored and 13 RBIs in four games.
