Police confirm body is that of 46-year-old transient

Spokane County Sheriff’s detectives confirmed today that the body found in the Dishman Hills Natural Area is that of a 46-year-old transient. The man’s body was discovered by two hikers Friday evening in a small cave at Camp Caro Community Park, just south of the Sprague Avenue corridor. The death appears to be a homicide, aid Sgt. Dave Reagan, sheriff’s spokesman. A three-hour search of the area where the body was located revealed no new evidence, a major crimes supervisor said today. The victim has been identified, but his name will not be released utnil after an autopsy by the Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office, Reagan said. The cause of death is also pending the autopsy. The victim had been living a transient lifestyle and has been in and out of various Spokane-area homeless shelters, officials said. It appears the man had been camping in the Dishman Hills area at the time of his death, Reagan said.
