In brief: State group honors Valleyfest organizer

From Local Reports

SPOKANE VALLEY – Longtime Valleyfest organizer Peggy Doering has been awarded the Washington Recreation and Park Association’s Citation of Merit-Citizen Award for 2010.

It is one of eight annual awards given by the nonprofit group to people and organizations in recognition of service to the parks and recreation field in their community or statewide.

Doering was recognized during the WRPA annual conference in Tacoma on April 15.

Earlier this year Doering was also given the Harry E. Nelson Award for Citizen of the Year by the Spokane Valley Chamber of Commerce, also in recognition of her leadership of the annual Valleyfest community event.
