Traffic violations form bulk of arrests

Things settled down a bit in Liberty Lake for the last full week of April. Almost all the arrests were related to traffic violations.

Police were called to the Liberty Lake McDonald’s at 8 p.m. on April 20 on a report of two employees fighting. An argument turned physical and an 18-year-old Spokane woman was arrested for assault, police Chief Brian Asmus said.

A call was received from the 2200 block of North Molter Road on April 22 at 9 a.m. for a man being disruptive. He was apparently late for an appointment and didn’t like being told he would have to reschedule, said Asmus. The man left before officers arrived.

A caller reported a suspicious person running between houses in the gated Legacy Ridge development at 9 p.m. on April 23. An officer responded and saw a car driving in the area without any headlights on, Asmus said. When the officer approached the vehicle, the strong odor of marijuana was noticeable. The driver, a 31-year-old Spokane man, admitted that he had just smoked marijuana and still had some of the drug in the car, Asmus said.

The driver also told the officer that he had worked construction in the development and still had the code to the gate, Asmus said. He was charged with driving with a suspended license, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving under the influence.

Other arrests during the week of April 19-26 included two for driving with a suspended license and one on a warrant for hit and run.

Officers handed out six citations for failure to show proof of liability insurance, two for defective muffler, two for speeding and two for prohibited parking. Additional citations were given for license and plates required, license registration signature required, failure to yield from driveway, reckless driving, a minor operating vehicle after alcohol consumption, and failure to wear a safety belt.
