YMCA marking decade with skating, food, music, more

Week of activities kicks off today

The Spokane Valley YMCA is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a full week of activities that begin today. All events will be held at the facility at 2421 N. Discovery Place.

A skate park launch party today from noon to 4 p.m. will include music, food and exhibitions for skateboard enthusiasts.

The facility will offer retro fitness classes. Box Step will be offered at 7:45 a.m. on Monday. Classes on Tuesday will be Yoga Plus at 10:50 a.m., NIA at noon and Power Step and Strength at 5:30 p.m. Body Conditioning will be offered Wednesday at 9:15 a.m.

Food donations for Second Harvest Food Bank will be collected from 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

People can get a little wet on Thursday during a cannonball competition from 6:30 to 7 p.m. and inner-tube water polo from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

The spring plant sale at the YMCA greenhouse will also kick off this week. The sale of annuals, perennials, houseplants and vegetable plants is scheduled for Friday and next Saturday, and May 13-15 and 20-22 or until supplies last. Hours for the sale will be from 3 to 6 p.m. on Thursdays, 9 a.m. to noon Fridays and noon to 3 p.m. Saturdays.

The celebration culminates next Saturday with mascot basketball, music, a bounce castle and a family scavenger hunt from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Lunch will be served by Longhorn BBQ.
