Taxing oil is premature
Raising taxes on petroleum-based fuels is a poor way to expand innovation and investment in an oil-rich biofuel called camelina (editorial, April 27).
Traditional fuels are readily available now from many sources, off-shore and inland. Do not hesitate to produce oil and natural gas, and develop nuclear power to supply the critical energy needs of our nation. Production in the U.S.A. is critical to cutting our dependence upon foreign energy. Additional taxes on energy sources at a time of economic difficulty contribute to a lagging recovery.
Traditional fuels provide jobs and opportunities now, as well as energy. New biofuels research and testing provide an exciting future for America’s energy independence. However, do not cripple energy production with new taxes to reach a future that is not yet.
