Whitworthian wins top honor

From Staff Reports

Whitworth University’s student-run newspaper has been named the top student publication in 2009 by the Society of Professional Journalists.

The Whitworthian was awarded first place in its division at the 2009 National Mark of Excellence Awards. The paper, published weekly, won Best All-Around Non-Daily Student Newspaper, competing against more than 3,600 entries submitted from around the country, officials said.

The newspaper’s staff will be recognized Oct. 4 at the Mark of Excellence Awards Luncheon at the SPJ Convention & National Journalism Conference in Las Vegas. The current staff includes editor-in-chief Morgan Feddes; online editors Jerod Jarvis and Danika Heatherly; and roughly 55 additional editors, writers and staff.
