Spokane County deputies offer boater classes

The Spokesman-Review

Spokane County sheriff’s marine deputies will offer free boater education classes beginning this weekend.

Registration for the free classes has dwindled, and officials warn that anyone 12 to 30 years old caught operating a boat or personal watercraft on area waterways without a Boater Education Safety card will be cited.

As of Jan. 1, all individuals in Washington 30 years old or younger must take the mandatory course to operate a power watercraft. The age limit will rise each year by five, until the age of 60. People born before 1955 are exempt.

Classes are from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the sheriff’s training unit Spokane Valley. For information and required pre-registration call (509) 477-3552 or e-mail at JCGoodwin@Spokane County.org.
