Offshore oil isn’t worth risk

I have never had much of an opinion toward offshore drilling. But after this recent oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, I’m starting to develop one.

Organisms around that area are so abundant and rare, and now they are at risk of dying due to the pollution in the water. The Gulf is surrounded by tourist destinations and is a huge supplier of seafood to the surrounding regions. If this seafood is sold, it may be contaminated and not suitable to eat. Along with that, this spill may last quite a while longer.

It was estimated that more than 200,000 gallons of oil have been leaking out of the well each day and there is very little control over it. I wonder how much is really being done or that can be done about this, and it worries me.

I do not support offshore drilling after this incident, even if our world is fueled on oil. The risk of something going wrong is too great and not worth the consequences.
