Two stolen-vehicle chases net four arrests

Spokane and Spokane Valley police have arrested four persons after officers spotted drivers in stolen Hondas during the weekend and chased them in high-speed pursuits. Allen S. Easley, 23, was pursued by police just before midnight Sunday along Interstate 90 from Spokane to Spokane Valley and back in a Honda Civic. He was booked on charges of attempting to elude a police vehicle and possession of a car stolen from a garage on Saturday night. Spokane police said Easley was spotted in the car going about 70 mph on East Sprague Avenue. Officers ran the license plate number and learned the car had been stolen. Because traffic was light at the time, the officers tried to stop Easley, but he took off at speeds reaching 100 mph on the freeway. Spokane County deputies joined in the effort. Easley exited the freeway headed east at Evergreen Road and then returned to the freeway westbound where officers had laid down spike strips near Argonne Road. The driver exited the freeway at Broadway Avenue, then got back on the freeway at the same location, but was forced to stop at Freya Street because of a disabled wheel. Also arrested was a woman passenger who was wanted on outstanding warrants, police said. In the other incident on Saturday, Spokane Valley police chased and caught Michael B. Amy, 26, of Spokane Valley after he was spotted in a stolen Honda Accord on Saturday afternoon. He was booked for possession of a stolen vehicle, attempting to elude officers, possessing tools for stealing cars and driving without a license. Booked with him was Ashlea L. Roberts, 23, of Spokane, on charges of taking a motor vehicle without the owner’s permission, possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of heroin and possession of methamphetamine. Spokane Valley police chased the car at high speeds into the city of Spokane and made the arrests after the pair had gotten out of the car at Division Street and Main Avenue, but were spotted by witnesses nearby. The owner of the car also lost credit cards and the two suspects are being investigated in connection with additional crimes, said Sgt. Dave Reagan, police spokesman.
