Fields and pairings set for 4A, 3A District 8 softball

Fields were finalized and pairings set for the District 8 4A and 3A softball playoffs following regular-season-ending Greater Spokane League games Monday.

North Central’s comeback 9-7, eight-inning win at Ferris eliminated the Saxons (7-13) from the 4A picture. And East Valley secured the final spot in the 3A field with a 4-2 win over visiting Rogers that eliminated the Pirates (6-14).

District play will be at Whitworth beginning Thursday with two loser-out games, Lewis and Clark (10-10) against Central Valley (8-12) in 4A at 3 p.m. and EV (7-13) vs. Shadle Park (7-13) in 3A at 5.

Sam Pryor went 4 for 4 with a three-run triple and Christian Hill-Erickson belted a solo home run for 3A top-seed North Central (12-8), which scored six runs in the last three innings to overcome Ferris. … Tiffany Lucas of EV struck out nine to run her GSL-leading total to 181 and pitched a five-hitter as the Knights foiled Rogers’ playoff bid. Keeli Nelson had an unassisted double play in the sixth inning to cut short a Pirates rally. … Megan Sikes had a two-out, three-run double in the bottom of the sixth to tie the score, then scored the winning run on a bobbled ball as Mt. Spokane (10-10) rallied past past University (15-5) 4-3. … Meagan Haux and Portia Schuller each drove in three runs and Sammy Beemer and Kendall Pavey (one hit each) combined on a two-hitter to lead LC to a 14-1, five-inning win over visiting Shadle Park. … Julia Rambo was 3 for 5 with two doubles and an RBI in Gonzaga Prep’s (11-9) 9-6 win at Central Valley. CV’s Lindsey Gibson had a single, double and triple and two RBIs.

•Idaho 4A Region 1: Amy Westberg had a double and a triple and scored two runs to lead Moscow to a 5-0 win over visiting Sandpoint. The Bears play at No. 1 seed Lakeland today at 4 p.m. Sandpoint will play at that loser on Wednesday at 4 in a loser-out game.

Baseball

Sage Poland’s walk-off, two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth gave Lewis and Clark a 3-1, extra-inning win over University at Avista Stadium in a loser-out game in the District 8 4A tournament. Tigers pitcher Dean Nielson got out of bases-loaded jams in both the third and fourth innings without allowing a run and saw the Titans get runners on second and third with two outs in the top of the eighth before slamming the door.

LC plays top-seeded Central Valley on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Avista.

•District 7 2B: Cody Hopkins’ two-run triple was a key blow in Davenport’s 13-2, five-inning win over Selkirk at Northwest Christian in a loser-out play-in game that sends the Gorillas into a 2 p.m. game today against Liberty at St. George’s in another loser-out game.

•Idaho 5A Region 1: Kyle Mai’s two-run triple in the sixth brought Lewiston from behind for a 2-1 win over visiting Post Falls, spoiling a complete-game three-hitter for the Trojans’ Cody Clark, and Coeur d’Alene got five RBIs from Chad Nyquist and two from Matt Lambert in a 15-4, five-inning win over visiting Lake City in regional openers.

CdA is at Lewiston today for a berth in the state tournament. Post Falls is at Lake City in a battle for survival. Both are at 4.

•Idaho 4A Region 1: Caleb Guerber started a 4-for-4 day, in which he drove in all five Lakeland runs, with a three-run homer in the first to lead the Hawks to a 5-4 win over visiting Moscow in the regional opener. Lakeland plays at No. 1 Sandpoint today at 4. Drew Papineau had a two-run homer for Moscow in the first.

Golf

Coeur d’Alene claimed the team title and Riley Hayfield of Kamiakin was the medalist in the boys Inland Empire tournament at Spokane Country Club.

CdA fashioned a three-shot win over Mt. Spokane, 309-312, with Lewis and Clark third at 314. Hayfield’s par 72 earned a one-shot win over Garrett Howard of Ferris. Three tied for third at 74 – CdA’s Alex Pounds and Hunter Craft, and Clarkston’s Tyler Carlson.

•Idaho 2A District I-II: Kellogg claimed team and medalist honors in both boys and girls divisions at Bryden Canyon.

Blake Jerome shot a 76 for a one-shot win over Carey Reynolds of Bonners Ferry in leading the Wildcats boys to a 346-347 win over St. Maries. Kaceelyn Pottu’s 82-97 margin over Madison Hauck of Timberlake led Kellogg’s girls to a 468-482 win over Orofino. The top six boys and top five girls qualified for state.
