Seattle police chief candidates narrowing to three
SEATTLE — The list of nine candidates for the job of Seattle police chief is being narrowed to three finalists.
KOMO Radio reports the selection panel is sending its recommendation Tuesday evening to Mayor Mike McGinn for his decision.
Among the nine candidates being considered is Spokane Police Chief Anne Kirkpatrick and three current members of the Seattle Police Department. The mayor has said their prospects are not affected by the controversy over officers beating a robbery suspect, which was caught on video.

If only:
They could perfect fusion …
401K’s went up at a consistent 8% …
Journalists knew the difference between the number 3 and 3+1 …

Headline: “Seattle police chief candidates narrowing to three”
Text of story: “The candidates list includes Spokane Police Chief Anne Kirkpatrick and three current members of the Seattle Police Department.”
Out here in the real world, that comes to four. Should journalists be allowed - alone - in the same room with a set of numbers?

I read it as the candidate list includes those four people and they haven’t yet announced the final three candidates, only submitted the list to be announced later.

I don’t think so. The April 27th article states:
Spokane police Chief Anne Kirkpatrick is one of 11 finalists to lead Seattle’s police force.
There’s a problem with the reporter’s arithmetic.
I wish that was our biggest problem…

“The mayor has said their prospects are not affected by the controversy over officers beating a robbery suspect, which was caught on video.”
The people of Seattle must feel reassured about that.

Oopsm my bad! No problem with arithmetic. The article stated that the current list of 11 finalists INCLUDES Chief Anne along with 3 others…..those four are not the whole group.
Well, when we get it down to three candidates this evening, maybe the articles will become simpler to understand…

Hey you bozos, pull your heads out. It says there are NINE candidates and that includes Kirkpatrick and 3 from the Seattle force PLUS 5 others. SR doesn’t need to work on their math, you need to work on your reading skills!

Yo Bob, unless you’re reading between the lines somehow, you’re making no sense. So apparently the bozo is Bobo.

No, Bob is correct. The article states that the selection panel is expected to send a list of three finalists to the mayor Tuesday night (tonight). The last paragraph discusses the current list (as of now), which is still nine candidates long. Included on that list of nine is Chief Kirkpatrick and three members of the Seattle PD. As Bob stated (again, correctly), that leave 5 other candidates to total the nine that are still on the list at this very moment.
After the panel makes its recommendation to the mayor this evening, the list will be three and we’ll know if the Chief is still on it.
