Taking a long-term view of it

Walters
From Wire Reports

Barbara Walters will have surgery to replace a faulty heart valve and take the summer off from “The View” to recuperate.

The television legend made the announcement on the air Monday, saying she’s known about her condition for a while and decided with her doctors this is the best time to have surgery.

“Since the summer is coming up,” said Walters, 80, “I can take a nice vacation.”

She said recovery generally takes one to three months.

Asked by co-host Whoopi Goldberg whether she was scared, Walters said she wasn’t, noting that the surgery has become more commonplace.

Former first lady Barbara Bush and comic Robin Williams had heart valve replacement surgery last year.

Still, Walters added, “Look, nobody wants to have this kind of surgery.”

Too wild for her own good

A reality starlet accused of burglarizing Orlando Bloom’s house pleaded no contest Monday and was sentenced to up to six months in jail.

Alexis Neiers, 18, is an aspiring model whose family has been the subject of the E! reality show “Pretty Wild.”

She is among six people accused of targeting homes of celebrities such as Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan and Rachel Bilson and stealing millions in jewelry, clothing and other luxury goods.
