LC’s Beemer shuts out Central Valley

 

Sammy Beemer threw a three-hitter and Portia Schuller had two doubles, two RBIs and one run as Lewis and Clark eliminated Central Valley (8-13) 3-0 in the District 8 4A softball tournament at Whitworth University.

The Tigers (11-10) play Gonzaga Prep (11-9) at 5 p.m. Monday at Whitworth in another loser-out. The winner will play Tuesday against the loser of today’s game between Mead and University.

•Katelyn Harvey homered and Elisabeth Roginski added three hits as Shadle Park (8-13) collected 10 runs on 10 hits in the seventh inning to beat East Valley (7-14) 11-5 in the District 8 3A tournament at EV. The Knights will advance as the No. 4 team to regionals, while SP plays Tuesday for the No. 2 spot against today’s Mt. Spokane-North Central loser.

•Moscow (4-18) knocked off visiting Sandpoint (5-15) 11-1 at the Idaho 4A Region I tournament. The Bears play at Lakeland Saturday. Moscow must defeat Lakeland twice to keep the Hawks from advancing to state.

•Erin Weber had four hits and Kelsey Moser added three as Colton defeated visiting St. John-Endicott 10-0 in District 9 1B tournament loser-out play. The Wildcats will play Touchet today for regional seeding. Touchet eliminated LaCrosse-Washtucna 12-0.

Boys soccer

Austin Walker and Alex Adams scored goals in the first half to lead Cheney (15-2) to a 3-1 victory over visiting Deer Park (10-7) in the semifinals of the District 7 2A tournament.

In other tournament action, Pavel Hudak’s header goal gave Pullman (12-5) a 1-0 lead and Nick Stevens’ goal in the 68th minute clinched the match as the Greyhounds edged visiting West Valley (8-10) 2-1. … Cheney will play Pullman at 4 p.m. Saturday at Gonzaga Prep for state seeding. DP will play WV at 6 p.m. Saturday at G-Prep for the third and final state berth.

Baseball

Lakeland (12-9) upended top-seeded Sandpoint (9-8) 13-3 in the championship round of the Idaho 4A Region I tournament in Sandpoint. With one loss apiece during the tournament, the Hawks and Bulldogs will play again today for a state berth.

Tennis

No. 3 seed Katijene Stime of Mead upended top-seeded Anna Lambert of Gonzaga Prep 3-6, 7-6, 6-2 to take the girls singles title at the District 8 4A tournament at University.

Stime’s Panthers won the team title with 60 points. Ferris won the boys title with 65.

In girls doubles, Cailynn Garcia and Lauren Archibald of U-Hi upended No. 1 Hayley Hendrickson and Malea Webb of Lewis and Clark 7-5, 2-6, 6-4.

Both No. 1 boys seeds won. Mead’s Ethan Vaughn beat Alex Marcinkowski of G-Prep 6-2, 6-2 in singles; Tom Geranios and Marshal McNally of Ferris handled fellow Saxons Dan Steiner and Mikka Valsta 7-6, 6-3 in doubles.

•North Central’s top-seeded Karen Chymcakova defeated No. 2 Valerie Nauditt of Mt. Spokane 6-0, 6-1 to win the District 8 3A tournament girls singles title at East Valley.

Marissa Woodbrey and Dana Uber of East Valley knocked off No. 2 Megan Nelson and Alexa Kerr of Mt. Spokane 6-2, 6-7, 7-5 to advance to today’s finals in girls doubles at EV.

In boys singles and doubles all No. 1 and No. 2 seeds advanced to the finals. Play will resume today at EV.
