Bezdicek wins with a record

Mt. Spokane’s Savana Bezdicek set a women’s course record at Wandermere Golf Course, winning the 3A regional golf tournament with a 5-under-par 66 in Spokane on Friday.

In the boys tournament, Kameron Lamb of West Valley-Yakima won the title with an even-par 70, while Mt. Spokane will send five golfers to state, with each finishing in the top 10 to make the boys cut.

Baseball

Carson Blumenthal recorded a pair of hits, including a three-run double in the bottom of the sixth inning, to help Mt. Spokane put away West Yalley-Yakima 6-0 in 3A regional play at Hanford High in Richland.

Blumenthal also struck out four while allowing just six hits. The Wildcats (18-3) will play Hanford today at 11 a.m. for the No. 1 spot to the state tournament. WV will play Shadle Park, a 13-0 loser to Hanford, in a loser-out game at 1 p.m., with the winner playing at 4 for the second state spot.

•Nick Ponponio hit a grand slam in the first inning and Orofino never looked back, beating St. Maries (10-14) 12-2 in five innings in Idaho 3A District I-II play in Orofino. … Tyler Shaffer’s RBI double plated John Morris in the bottom of the seventh to lift Timberlake (11-6) to a 4-3 victory over Priest River (13-10) to move the Tigers into the championship game against the Maniacs at 3 p.m. today. The Spartans and Lumberjacks will play at 1 p.m. in a loser-out game, needing a win to play for the second state berth.

•Wilbur-Creston (18-3) scored 10 runs in the third inning and collected 25 total hits to blow out visiting Curlew (11-9) 22-4 to advance to the championship game of the District 7 1B tournament against Almira/Coulee-Hartline (8-7) Monday at University. The Cougars, who earlier beat Cusick (12-7) 3-1, will play Northport for the third and fourth spots in the state tournament. … ACH advanced to the title game by beating St. Michael’s (7-11) 11-0 and then knocking off No. 1 seed Northport (12-9) 9-2 in Northport.

Softball

Scheyenne DeLaRosa tripled and finished with two RBIs and Avery Smith drove in two more runs as North Central (13-8) knocked off Mt. Spokane (10-11) 12-5 in the District 8 3A tournament at Whitworth.

The Indians are the No. 1 seed to regionals, while the Wildcats will play Shadle Park on Tuesday to determine the second and third seeds to regionals.

•Casey Stangel allowed no runs on two hits and struck out 11 to pitch Lake City (21-5) past Coeur d’Alene (21-8) 3-0 to earn the Idaho 5A Region I tournament title in Coeur d’Alene. The Timberwolves advance to the state tournament, while the Vikings’ season is over.

•Nicole Cameron threw a six-hit shutout with seven strikeouts and host Timberlake (12-8) knocked off Priest River (5-15) 5-0 in Idaho 3A District I-II action at Spirit Lake. The Tigers advanced to the title game with the win, playing Kellogg (9-6) at noon today. The PR Spartans, who earlier in the day edged Bonners Ferry (1-7) 8-3 with four RBIs from Holly Hirst, will play St. Maries (13-6) in a loser-out game at 10 a.m. … To advance to the title game, Kellogg used 10 of its 17 hits to score 14 runs in the first two innings to beat St. Maries after knocking off Orofino 4-1.

Tennis

East Valley finished the District 8 3A tournament, sending one singles player and two doubles teams on to the state tournament, as Rachel Duckett finished third in singles and Alyssa Dorr and Bryce Combs beat teammates Marissa Woodbrey and Dana Uber to finish first and second at EV.

For the boys, Patrick Howe and Noel Ayos of Shadle Park beat Chris Noll and Kyle Harmon from Mt. Spokane for the doubles title, while Mt. Spokane’s Justin McLean won the singles championship 6-0, 6-1 over Rogers’ Robin Grell.

Track and field

Kacie Shields set a school record in the 300-meter hurdles in 47.48 seconds and also won the 100 hurdles (15.84) as Post Falls took the girls team title with a score of 99 at the Idaho 5A/4A Region I meet in Lewiston.

Coeur d’Alene won the boys title by one point over Lake City with 84.5 points.

In the 4A Moscow took both titles with the boys tallying 98 points and the girls 69.5. Jayson Washington led the Bears with wins in the 100 and 200.

•Freeman and the host Lakeside girls tied 75-75 in a dual meet at Nine Mile Falls and split the Northeast A championship with 3-0-1 records. The Freeman boys team clinched first place with an 81-64 victory over Lakeside.
