West option best for Jefferson

The Spokesman-Review

I am a Jefferson Montessori parent, and in reading “Protect Neighborhood Calm” by Becky Heacox (Letters, May 12), I don’t know whether to be offended (being called “elitist”), outraged (blatant misuse of Maria Montessori’s educational philosophy) or honored (having the sole power to control Jefferson’s destiny).

Yes, I want the west option for the new school, based on simple criteria: 1) which option will cost less, and 2) which will cause the least disruption to the students. The west option fits the bill.

If we were to remove illogical and emotional banter from the discussion, it is clear the west option is the best use of bond dollars (voted on by the people of this community). A completely new building will cost less than renovating the existing structure.

Additionally, our children will not have to be bused (or driven) to any other schools thus alleviating the chaos of uprooting Jefferson students and staff. We also need to consider the impact to the host schools.

If the people in the Comstock area do not want to live near Jefferson, they should have bought a home someplace else. By the way, I live in the Comstock neighborhood BECAUSE of Jefferson.
