In brief: Fund set up for bereaved family

COEUR D’ALENE – The Kootenai County 4-H organization has created the Julie Wilson Memorial Fund at Mountain West Bank to assist Steve and Sharla Wilson and their family after their daughter Julie died in an accident at a home in Wolf Lodge last Sunday.

The family has been involved in and supportive of the 4-H program. Sharla Wilson is the Kootenai program coordinator and Steve Wilson is involved in the annual North Idaho Fair.

Forum will discuss youth success

SPIRIT LAKE – The Spirit Lake Youth Equipped for Success will hold a community forum, “Defining at Risk: Current Youth Issues and Balanced Restorative Justice for Our Community,” at the Community Center on Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

The topic will include panel speakers including members of the Spirit Lake Police Department; Shelley Tschida, executive director of the Spirit Lake Y.E.S. program; Clyde Owens, the co-director of the Wilderness Ranch Ministries; and Nancy Scofield, author of “Running High: A True Life Story.”

The forum will address youth safety, accountability and productivity. The evening will also include a question and answer session.

Relay for Life begins Friday

POST FALLS – The Kootenai County Relay for Life will be 6 p.m. Friday through noon on Saturday at the Greyhound Park and Event Center.

The survivors dinner will begin at 7 p.m. on Saturday. The ceremony of hope will follow at 9:30 p.m.

The Relay for Life golf tournament will be held at the Coeur d’Alene Resort Golf Course on May 28, beginning at 2 p.m.

A $115 entry fee includes golf at the Coeur d’Alene Resort; a deluxe cart and caddie service; pre-round practice balls and a warm-up sports massage; a barbecue raffle lunch at noon, prior to the tournament; a $10,000 hole-in-one prize on the floating green; tee prizes for all entrants; and the grand prize of four rounds of golf at the Coeur d’Alene Resort.

Golfers will swing for crisis nursery

COEUR D’ALENE – The Coeur d’Alene Resort Golf Course will host the Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery Golf “Give-Back” day on May 24, to benefit the Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery.

The cost is $125 per person; $25 of every participant’s fees will be donated to the crisis nursery. The discounted price includes a round of golf; complimentary use of a custom golf cart; unlimited range balls at the over-the-water practice facility; a complimentary warm-up sports massage; and a personalized engraved souvenir bag tag.

Chef offers class in Italian cuisine

Talk covers Idaho Basque history

COEUR D’ALENE – Boise State University history professor John Bieter will speak about the changing perspective of Idaho’s Basque-heritage citizens toward their culture on May 27 at the Coeur d’Alene Public Library, 702 E. Front Ave., at 7 p.m.

Bieter will lecture on the immigrant generation, from 1890 until the early 1920s; the Basque-American generation, from the 1920s until about 1949; and the American-Basque generation, from about 1950 to the present. Bieter will explain how each generation has a different perspective on their culture and a different experience in Idaho.
