Sarah Chandler has winning essay

Harrison Elementary sixth-grader Sarah Chandler has been named Pacific Regional winner in the BIC Corporation “Quality Comes In Writing” national essay contest.

Chandler was among 9,000 students who entered the contest nationwide. She will receive a $500 cash award for her winning essay.

The contest asked students to consider if they could interview someone, who would it be and what would they ask; if they had a super power, what would it be and how would they use it; or if they woke up one morning to find they had switched places with someone, who would it be and what would happen.

Chandler’s essay was titled “My Interview with Bill Watterson,” the creator of the comic strip Calvin and Hobbes.

In addition to her cash award, Chandler’s teacher will be awarded a $100 American Express gift check from BIC Corporation.
