Shea proved his worth
The Washington state legislative majority should listen to Benjamin Franklin: “He that goes a borrowing goes a sorrowing.” It chose to close a $2.8 billion shortfall by raising taxes, increasing spending and taking money from the state’s “rainy day” fund.
With a larger deficit expected (I read $10 billion) next year, common sense would tell us to reduce spending, not increase taxes. But the progressives seem to have lost the ability to think outside of the tax-and-spend cycle.
The attitude of the 2010 budget is ideologically punitive, “getting even” with the taxpayers for not producing more revenue, rather than realistically reducing state employee base, lowering wages and removing programs. Spending what we have, i.e., rainy day fund, to postpone the inevitable harder decision is not responsible. It’s obvious when we see that the state government has increased jobs by 7,800 while our private sector lost over 173,000 that the liberals in control must be driven out.
We need good representatives such as our own 4th District Rep. Matt Shea, who put forth several budget considerations that were ignored by the liberal majority to the detriment of the people. Check his voting record and retain Matt Shea.
