Problem solver’s approach

The Spokesman-Review

On May 16, Linda McHenry wrote a response to a May 14 news brief about Andy Billig’s nomination for state representative in the 3rd Legislative District. I’d like to add my support with a brief example of what I know of Andy’s leadership.

As president of the Spokane Indians, Andy faced the challenge of dealing with the controversy over the team name and logo. Instead of taking an oppositional approach (either for or against), Andy went to the Spokane Tribe and worked with them to come up with a solution that would allow the Spokane team to continue being the Indians in a way that offered respect instead of offense.

We face a political climate, both locally and nationally, that is increasingly partisan. We need someone in office who can show everyone that there are often other options, that there are ways of approaching problems that will prove beneficial to all of us, not just one side or another. We need leadership, intelligence and the dedication to work through difficult issues. We need Andy Billig in Olympia.
