Recent letters about John Yoo

The Spokesman-Review

The recent letters criticizing The Spokesman for allowing John Yoo to write an opinion piece really reflects the naivete and spineless natures of the anti-antiterror left who, in the words of the Wall Street Journal (Feb. 22), pilloried unfairly mid-level attorneys who offered legal counsel, not moral nor ethical advice, to the previous administration.

Here’s my guess: In this war on terrorism, most Americans don’t really care if jihadists are waterboarded, snowboarded or skateboarded if intelligence information can be obtained to save lives, prevent future attacks and destroy the sources. This administration’s policy of offering Miranda rights, ACLU lawyers and civilian court proceedings will get us nowhere, except maybe an invitation to Oslo.

The Times Square bombing, the Detroit underwear attack all failed due to personnel ineptness and astute nearby Americans. Attorney General Holder, Secretary Napolitano and President Obama are derelict in their duties, and probably adored by laughing leaders in Russia, North Korea, Iran, Venezuela, Cuba, Afghanistan and Pakistan.

The world will never be safe by playing “nicely” with extremists hellbent on destroying the West – the previous world wars showed us the results of diplomatic appeasement.
