Man arrested after officers chase stolen vehicle

A fugitive sex offender armed with knives and driving a stolen vehicle led officers on a chase Monday through west Spokane, police said.

Chris L. Gilbert, 40, drove in reverse for several blocks after Officer Terry Preuninger, tipped that Gilbert was wanted on a warrant, approached him in the 1100 block of West Jackson Avenue about 2:30 p.m.

Two other officers helped block Gilbert’s car and arrest him. Police say he had two knives.

Police found suspected stolen property in the Honda, which was stolen from the area of Ash Street and Glass Avenue on Saturday night. Its plates were stolen from another car Sunday in the 1100 block of West Spofford Avenue.

Gilbert was booked into jail on charges of attempting to elude a police officer, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, possession of stolen license plates and a warrant for failing to register as a sex offender. He has a conviction for third-degree rape.

At last battle of Deep Creek re-enactment, Union and Confederacy return to Gettysburg

UPDATED: 8:55 p.m.

updated  With the thunderous crack of a cannon and the sulfurous pop of a musket, the Battle of Gettysburg was on. The Union soldiers, clad in various shades of blue, moved slowly up the hill to the tune of artillery fire drowning out a lonely trio of musicians playing the songs of war. Beneath them and occupying a small meadow, Confederate infantry men and women fired in unison to their superior’s command, each snap bringing a flurry of gun powder dancing in the air.
