Food from Scratch at new Pub on 5th

A pleasant, comfortable place with pleasant people to serve you is evident at the Pub on 5th, a new tavern behind and connected to Scratch Restaurant in the northeast corner of Fifth Street and Sherman Avenue in downtown Coeur d’Alene.

Featuring a perimeter of leather seating along the walls and leather couches with serving tables in the middle, the place seats about 30 customers. A flat-screen TV shows sports events. The fare includes several beers and wines, pub menu items and the full menu from the adjoining Scratch. Owner Jason Rex has three or four employees at Pub on 5th and also owns the Scratch Restaurant in downtown Spokane.

Nikolai Castoro, who tends the early shift, said hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and until 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.

M.J.’s Produce at 4th and Spruce

Fresh and seasonal produce and plants are the mainstay of M.J.’s Produce, which opened this month in front of the Saw Professional Building at Fourth Street and Spruce Avenue in Midtown Coeur d’Alene. Owner Mary Jo Poteet’s stand previously was on Government Way just south of Appleway.

Her products are from as local sources as possible with most of it now from the Yakima Valley. She plans to be open through Halloween and afterward to offer Christmas trees. Hours are 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. weekdays and 10:30-6:30 Saturdays and Sundays. Phone 771-3289.
