NPR not biased
In response to Mr. Booth’s Nov. 1 letter (“Fear and NPR”), he seems to have paid attention only to National Public Radio when Mr. Williams was fired. While NPR seems to have acted too rashly in firing Mr. Williams, Mr. Booth obviously did not listen as NPR talk shows and newscasters interviewed Mr. Williams on air after his firing, and all generally gave poor reviews to NPR for firing Mr. Williams in the first place.
What other news organization would tolerate its own anchors and hosts giving it such poor reviews? For that matter, what other news company would allow its anchors to report investigative journalism into its own organization? Few, if any; and in portraying NPR as a “left of center” station for this one incident, Mr. Booth is simply picking and choosing his facts, as opposed to looking at the entire story – just like so many other news stations seem to do.
NPR acted rashly in removing Mr. Williams, but portraying them as biased because of it is both wrong and a lie.
