Power-play goals propel Brandon

Late comeback not enough for Chiefs

Spokane pulled out all the stops to extend Friday night’s Western Hockey League game in Brandon, Manitoba

Levko Koper’s team-leading ninth goal with 1:26 remaining with an empty net behind him tied the game at 2-2, but the Chiefs (7-8-1) couldn’t keep the momentum rolling in overtime. Brandon (7-10-0-1) scored its third power-play goal of the evening 2:29 into the extra period to collect a 3-2 win.

David Toews scored the winner for the Wheat Kings as they converted 3 of 5 power-play opportunities to earn a fifth straight win over the Chiefs at home.

They are the first power-play goals the Chiefs have given up on their Eastern Division trip, killing off the other 13.

Despite never leading, the Chiefs rallied on two occasions to tie the game. Center Dominik Uher scored his first goal of the season with 10 seconds remaining in the second period, tying the score at 1.

A goal by the Kings’ Mark Stone 7:35 into the third period gave them a 2-1 advantage. More than 16 minutes later, the Chiefs pulled goalie James Reid for an extra attacker and were rewarded with Koper’s goal.

Spokane dropped to 2-3 on its six-game road trip.
