Too much shovel-leaning

On the front page of the Nov. 2 paper is the headline “City jobs on the line.” There is also a picture of three city workers working on a small paving job. One of the men is actually working while the other two are standing and watching; one of them is leaning on a shovel.

As I drive around town and through construction zones, I witness this same scene time and time again; one guy working and two others standing around. Usually there are trucks on the site and it is usually one per man.

With the city of Spokane supposedly in financial trouble, I hope work crews are cut to a minimum and the use of trucks, etc., have more than one person in them.

Go ahead, Ms. Verner, cut jobs that are unnecessary or overstaffed.
