Paving closes Maple, Walnut downtown to vehicles today

Maple and Walnut streets at Second Avenue in downtown Spokane will be closed today so that construction crews can continue paving the rebuilt street, weather permitting.

Crews are putting down two 2-inch layers of asphalt on the south side of the street. The north side was paved earlier.

A third layer of asphalt is still needed before the project is completed, and crews were hoping to get the blacktop down this month before winter weather settles over the region.
