In brief: Women’s health fair Thursday

SPOKANE VALLEY – The Women’s Expo and Health Fair will be Thursday at CenterPlace Regional Events Center, 2426 N. Discovery Place, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Dinner will be held at 6 and a lecture by Kay LeClaire, the first woman over 60 to climb the seven summits, will be at 6:30.

The Healthy Woman Anniversary fair will include health screenings, local vendors and raffles. Women of all ages are invited.

GET Program workshop planned

LIBERTY LAKE – A presentation will be held on Thursday for parents seeking information about Washington’s Guaranteed Education Tuition Program at Liberty Lake Children’s Academy, 1327 N. Stanford Lane, from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm.

The informal meeting is designed to show how the program works, how its value is guaranteed and how it can help families of young children afford college in the future. GET is a 529 prepaid tuition plan; college savings are guaranteed by state law to keep pace with rising tuition no matter how much it increases in the future. The funds can be used at almost any college, university or vocational school in the country.

The event will include a brief presentation with current enrollment materials and GET staff available to help families with questions.

Candy buy-back nets 691 pounds

LIBERTY LAKE – The third annual Great Candy Buy Back at KiDDS Dental, 1327 N. Stanford Lane, brought in 237 trick-or-treaters, turning in their hard-earned sweets for cash.

The event also totaled 691 pounds in candy collected, with one child trading in more than 21 pounds of Halloween goodies. KiDDS Dental shipped 849 pounds of candy to troops overseas as part of Operation Gratitude.

Benefit ball, auction planned

LIBERTY LAKE – On Dec. 4, the Friends of Pavillion Park will host the 12th annual Liberty Lake Holiday Ball and Auction at the Davenport Hotel, from 5:30 p.m. to midnight.

The evening will help the group to raise funds for community park concerts, the Liberty Lake cinema series, the Liberty Lake Loop fun run and college scholarships.

Tickets are $100 per person.
