A gunman shot and killed by police last week near a busy north Spokane intersection was identified Monday as Ethan A. Corporon, 29. Corporon died of two gunshots wounds to his torso and lower extremities, the Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office said after completing an autopsy. Police say Corporon fired a shotgun at 1402 W. Buckeye Ave., while threatening his father about 3 p.m. Friday, then fled officers before abandoning his truck in Monroe Street and running westbound with the gun. Six Spokane police officers officers fired shots at him in the parking lot behind Shari’s restaurant. He died near the intersection of Indiana Avenue and Madison Street about 3:15 p.m. Detectives found marijuana plants at the Buckeye home and at Corporon’s home at 1211 E. 14th Ave. in the South Perry Neighborhood, where neighbors said he’d moved in about a month ago. City of Spokane Valley records show Corporon obtained a business license for a consulting company in June. T & E Consulting was described as offering services for the elderly and persons with disabilities. Corporon’s criminal history includes a felony case in King County in 1997 and several traffic convictions in Spokane and Benton counties. He also has convictions for harassment and violating a no-contact order and was charged with several felonies in Benton County in 2008 and 2009, including third-degree assault and second-degree malicious mischief. He pleaded guilty in April 2009 but was arrested in January for violating his sentence. He has never been to prison but was on Department of Corrections probation from April to July 2009. Convicted felons generally are prohibited from possessing firearms. It’s unclear how Corporon obtained the shotgun. His father, Marc Corporon, declined comment through a note left on his home’s door in the Latah Creek area. No one was home at Buckeye Avenue, where neighbors said men were often working on the house. The officers involved in the shooting have been placed on paid administrative leave. Their names are expected to be released this week. The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the shooting with a multi-agency team of detectives. Witnesses who have not been interviewed are asked to call Crime Check at (509) 456-2233 and leave contact information.
