In brief: Church seeks toy donations for store

OPPORTUNITY – Opportunity Presbyterian Church plans to open its Toy Store again next month and is looking for donations of new toys for toddlers through sixth-graders.

The store offers toys at an 80 percent discount to families who are referred by area shelters, school counselors and other agencies. People are asked to include a receipt with each item donated or mark the price of each item.

The final day to donate gifts is Dec. 2. Donations can be dropped off at the church at 202 N. Pines Road. Call (509) 924-9750 for more information.

Auction to offer photos with Santa

DISHMAN – Triple R Auction, 107 N. Park Road, will host “A Little Bit of Christmas” Friday through next Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Children can have their pictures taken with Santa Claus for free. Donations of nonperishable food items for Spokane’s food banks or a new toy for Toys for Tots will be accepted.

Police install hotline to Crime Check

SPOKANE VALLEY – The Spokane Valley Police Precinct recently installed a red call box, containing a single push button that will allow users to dial directly into Crime Check, the Spokane County crime reporting system. The box is on the outside wall near the front door.

The Valley Precinct isn’t open on nights and weekends, but the call box will give visitors 24-hour access to Crime Check to report a crime or alert officers.

There is no cost to use the direct-access call box.

Girl Scouts plan ‘Christmas Tea’

SPOKANE VALLEY – Girl Scout Troop 2678 will celebrate the holiday with a Christmas Tea Dec. 12 at Intersection Church, 905 N. McDonald Road, from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m.

The event is also a benefit. The troop will use funds to buy Christmas gifts for Toys for Tots. The remaining money will be used for a troop outing.

Tickets are $7 in advance and $10 on the day of the tea.
