Huskies whip Cavs, 106-63

LAHAINA, Hawaii – Isaiah Thomas scored 14 of his 21 points in Washington’s overwhelming first half, and the No. 13 Huskies hit 17 3-pointers to crush Virginia 106-63 in the first round of the Maui Invitational on Monday night.

Washington (3-0) scored 216 points, second-most in program history, in its first two games and had no trouble putting the ball in the hoop against Virginia’s overmatched defense.

The Huskies shot 59 percent, made 17 of 26 3-pointers and got 17 points from C.J. Wilcox in a rout that started with a big run early in the first half.

Next up is a semi tonight against No. 8 Kentucky and freshman phenom Terrence Jones, who spurned Washington at the last second to play for the Wildcats.

Jon Harris had 19 points and K.T. Harrell 12 for Virginia (2-2) in its second straight lopsided defeat for coach Tony Bennett, the former Washington State coach.

Matthew Bryan-Amaning led the Huskies with 21 points, but it’s Thomas who makes them go.

Thomas hit two from beyond the arc and scored on a three-point play in the opening 51/2 minutes.
