Pharmacist, do your job
On Nov. 18, Ms. Wagner wrote about conscience and feels it’s perfectly OK for her to impose her personal beliefs onto others. In fact, Ms. Wagner suggests her conscience trumps doing her job, and her personal beliefs trump medical decisions between a patient and her doctor.
No pharmacist should have the right or authority to deny a person medical treatment based solely on their personal beliefs. Where would such a concept lead us? An EMT could refuse to treat an accident victim wearing a burqa? A fireman could let a house burn because there is a menorah in the window?
I find it ironic that people scream for smaller government, fewer regulations, less intrusion into our lives and then turn around and sue the government in order to ensure the government implements regulations that grant them the power to impose their personal beliefs onto others. Why is it the government’s responsibility to legalize your personal dogma?
In any other industry a person would be fired if they refused to serve their customer for no other reason than their personal beliefs. If your conscience prevents you from doing your job, then you need to find a different job.
