DVD releases: ‘Eat, Pray, Love’ a journey of self-discovery

Philadelphia Inquirer

“Eat Pray Love” – Julia Roberts stars as soul-searching scribe Elizabeth Gilbert in this slick, scenic but ultimately shallow adaptation of the best-selling memoir about a woman’s year in Italy, India and Indonesia, on a journey of self-discovery and really, really good food. (2:13; PG-13 for language, sexual references and male rear nudity) • •  1/2

“The Expendables” – A towering corned beef special of a movie directed by Sylvester Stallone, who co-stars with a crew of aging action heroes: Mickey Rourke, Dolph Lundgren, Jet Li and Jason Statham (the youngster of the bunch). It harks back to the days of Rambo, when men were men and banana republics could be blown up with impunity. (1:43; R for bloody violence and language) • • •

“I’m Still Here” – This documentarylike chronicle of a year in the life of the twice-Oscar-nominated Joaquin Phoenix, as he announces his retirement from movies to pursue a career as a hip-hop artist, stands as a fascinating look at the cloistered, coddled world of a movie star. (1:48; R for sexual material, graphic nudity, pervasive language, some drug use and crude content) • • •   1/2
