Carroll College rolls in quarterfinals
Gary Wagner completed 22 of 31 passes for 236 yards and two touchdowns as Carroll College defeated Marian University of Illinois 38-6 Saturday in an NAIA quarterfinal football playoff game in Helena.
Chance Demarais ran 24 times for 83 yards and two touchdowns for the No. 2 Saints (12-0).
Nick Bradford ran five times for 37 yards and a touchdown to lead No. 11 Marian (10-3).
The Saints broke open a close game by scoring two touchdowns in quick succession late in the first half to take a 21-6 lead at the break.
Carroll will host St. Xavier (13-0) in the semifinals, played next Saturday at 11 a.m. (PST) in Helena.

St. Thomas 24, Linfield 17 (2OT): Dakota Tracy threw for 160 yards and hit Fritz Waldvogel for a 10-yard touchdown pass in double overtime to lift the No. 4 Tommies (12-0) to a win over the Wildcats (9-2) in the second round of the NCAA Division III tournament at O’Shaugnessy Stadium in St. Paul, Minn.
Linfield tied the game with 17 seconds remaining on Aaron Boehme’s second touchdown pass of the afternoon to send the game to overtime.
Boehme finished with 226 passing yards and two TDs, but Linfield’s Taylor Avritt fumbled in overtime to end the game.
