Library hours differ

The “Worth of a library weighed” (Nov. 19) article was beautifully written, and the author’s view was especially true. However, the statement regarding usage of the East Side Library is misleading: “… identified East Side for possible closure because it has the lowest usage of any branch.”

Please note: It only has lower usage because it has fewer open hours. I, for one, would prefer using it, but it’s hard to do that when it’s closed. Its open hours are: Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 2:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.; Thursdays, 1:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.; Fridays and Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. It is not open on Sundays and Mondays.

Compare that with the South Hill Library, which is open Mondays and Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Wednesdays through Saturdays from 10 p.m. to 6 p.m. The only day it is closed is Sunday.

Of course, I end up using, as a longtime library fan, an open branch, but if I could I would use the one closest to me, which would be the East Side.
