Three people were injured on Monday when a motorist failed to yield to oncoming traffic on state Highway 290, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Patricia Thompson, 70, was eastbound at Starr Road when she attempted to turn north at 2:20 p.m. and was struck head-on by a 1995 Toyota 4Runner driven by Oscar Sutherland, 47, of Spokane, the WSP said.

Sutherland and his passenger, Ronnie G. Thompson, 52, were hospitalized.

Thompson, of Newman Lake, was taken to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane. She will be cited for failing to yield, the WSP said.
