In brief: Toreros sweep Gonzaga

Ali Troost had 15 kills with a hitting percentage of .414 Thursday as 24th-ranked San Diego swept visiting Gonzaga 25-17, 25-11, 25-15 in a West Coast Conference volleyball opener at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.

The Toreros (10-4) hit .363 for the match and held the Bulldogs to a .071 night.

Junior Denise Van de Mortel had 24 assists and eight digs for the Zags (2-15), who suffered a blow in the first game when junior Kaprina Goodwin dislocated her right elbow.

Baseball

Gonzaga University expects 80 former Bulldogs players this weekend for its annual alumni weekend.

The 2011 Bulldogs team will play the alumni at noon Saturday at Patterson Baseball Complex and Washington Trust Field. The event is open to the public and free.
