Licensing substation opens on Sullivan
Those seeking car tab renewals or vehicle licenses have another option with a new state-sanctioned substation that opened in Spokane Valley.
Cindy and Steve Lown opened Auto Licensing Plus LLC along Sullivan Road north of Sprague Avenue in August and are hoping to attract customers with the convenient location and friendly service.
“The most important thing now is the waving – to let people know we are here,” said co-owner Cindy Lown, referring to the sign holders along the sidewalk that fronts the shop’s location. “This is such an awesome location.”
The Lowns, former local insurance agency owners, received state Department of Licensing approval to operate a substation following an application process that required a business plan with potential locations and an interview and selection process with county officials. Local officials pass on their choice for state review and final approval.
The state allows 10 substations in Spokane County, and applications are sought when one closes for various reasons, Lown said.
The strip mall locale of the new agency offers access to parking, is two miles from the state emissions testing center on Marietta Avenue and is the easternmost location of substations in the county. The Lowns employ four others who bring a combined 60 years in the field and similar experience.
Residents can pay for tab renewals, vehicle and boat titles. Idaho residents also can obtain boat tabs. Auto Licensing Plus collects its state-set operating fees from customers. Registration fees are $5 and titles are $12. Notary services also are available for $8.
In other Valley business, the Lloyd’s Tire & Automotive at 16010 E. Sprague Ave. in Veradale has been renamed Clark’s Tire & Automotive. The recent change comes after owner Chris Clark became sole owner. He opened this location of Lloyd’s about a year ago with his longtime employer, tire and auto repair franchise owner Lloyd Sauberman.
