Football roundup: Irish smother Eagles

Dayne Crist threw for two first-quarter touchdowns and ran for another Saturday night as Notre Dame (2-3) built a 21-point lead and coasted to a 31-13 victory over Boston College (2-2) in Boston.

The Fighting Irish had lost three straight – all to teams currently in the AP Top 25. But they got little resistance from BC, which promoted freshman Chase Rettig to starting QB during the week only to lose him to an ankle injury in the second quarter.

Air Force 14, Navy 6: At Air Force Academy, Colo., freshman Jamil Cooks blocked a punt, setting up QB Tim Jefferson’s second TD run, and the Falcons (4-1) beat the Midshipmen (2-2) for the first time in eight years.

Baylor 55, Kansas 7: At Waco, Texas, Robert Griffin threw for 380 yards with two of his three TDs to Josh Gordon, who turned a short pass into a school-record 94-yarder, and the Bears (4-1, 1-0 Big 12) beat the Jayhawks (2-3, 0-1) for their most lopsided conference win.
