NFL notes: Steelers’ Dixon finished

The Pittsburgh Steelers placed quarterback Dennis Dixon on the injured reserve list on Saturday with a meniscus tear in his left knee, ending his season.

Dixon started the Steelers’ first two games in place of the suspended Ben Roethlisberger. He was injured on a run during the first quarter of a 19-11 victory at Tennessee on Sept. 19. Charlie Batch took over and Dixon had surgery later in the week.

The move allows the Steelers to activate defensive lineman Steve McLendon for Sunday’s game against Baltimore.

With Dixon unable to play until next season, the Steelers apparently will keep Batch and Byron Leftwich as backups when Roethlisberger’s suspension ends Monday.

Saints sign RB Wynn

The New Orleans Saints have signed running back DeShawn Wynn from their practice squad, a move coach Sean Payton has suggested he would make if Pierre Thomas were unable to play against the Carolina Panthers.

Wynn’s agent, Christina Phillips, confirmed that her client had been signed to New Orleans’ active roster.

Thomas has been listed as questionable for today’s game in the Louisiana Superdome and the Saints have not yet announced whether he will be deactivated or which player will be cut to create roster space for Wynn.

Jets’ Pace ruled out

Jets linebacker Calvin Pace has been ruled out for the fourth straight game with a broken right foot that has sidelined him since late in the preseason.

Pace practiced for the first time on a limited basis and was listed as questionable for today’s game at Buffalo, but did not travel with the team so he could continue his rehabilitation.
