Prep roundup: U-Hi finishes fourth at Sunfair

Christian Bucko led five University runners with a time of 16 minutes, 34.4 seconds, to finish in the top 10 in their respective races with an eighth-place finish in the No. 6 varsity flight (for No. 2 runners) and the Titans took fourth place with 39 points Saturday at the Sunfair cross country meet at Franklin Park in Yakima.

Also adding top-five finishes for the Titans were Trevin Hiebert (16 minutes, 41.6 seconds) and B.J. Smith (16:35.5) in the fourth and fifth flights, respectively.

Eisenhower took first in the team results with 26 points, while David Norris finished in eighth place at 15:58.2 in the No. 7 varsity flight (for No. 1 runners) to lead the Coeur d’Alene Vikings to a seventh-place finish

In the girls race, Baylee Mires took fourth in the top varsity race, finishing in 18:09 as Mead rounded out the top 10 in the team standings with 87 points.

Kendra Weitz of Shadle Park was ninth in the race, finishing in 18:40.8.

Jesuit, which scored 11 points, won the race behind Genevieve Reaume, who won the No. 1 varsity race in 19:37.2.

Bulldog Invite: Cody Edwards took first place in 16:56 to lead East Valley to a first-place finish at Pasco.

The Knights finished with 61 points to edge out Tri-Cities Prep (82) and Central Kitsap (86).

In the girls race, Christina Anderson (20:33) and Anna Henry (21:19) finished first and second to lead the Northwest Christian Crusaders to second place with a score of 40 points.

Central Kitsap won the team title with 27 points thanks to five top-10 finishes.

Can-Am Invite: Colton Hastings finished in first place in 16:56 to lead Colville to a second-place finish in the boys race of the Can-Am Invite in Kettle Falls.

Deer Park won the team title with 42 points, edging out the Indians (48).

Colville won the girls title with 55 points as Alaina Kowitz (20:37) and Alison Price (20:56) finished second and fourth, respectively.

Boys soccer

• IEL 5A: Tim Mueller had a trio of goals and Post Falls (12-1-1, 5-1) put a half game between itself and Coeur d’Alene, pummeling Lewiston (2-9, 0-6) 7-0 in PF. Cole Jesienouski had a goal and an assist in the win for the Trojans.

• IEL 4A: Tanner Williams supplied three assists as five players scored for Sandpoint (9-5-1, 4-0) in its 5-0 win against Lakeland (2-13, 0-4) in Sandpoint. The Bulldogs held the Hawks to just one shot in the match.

• IEL: Moscow’s Kyle Pederson scored in the 79th minute to give the 4A Bears (5-6-1) a 1-1 tie with 5A Lake City (7-3-3) in Moscow.

• Intermountain: Aaron Borne scored both goals for Bonners Ferry (11-3, 6-0), with the second in the 77th minute ending up as the winner in a 2-1 victory against Orofino (0-5-1, 0-4-1) in Orofino. … Judd Semple had five saves in a shutout win as St. Maries (5-7-3, 3-2-1) blanked Priest River (0-4, 0-4) 3-0 in PR.

Girls soccer

IEL 4A: Sandpoint (3-6-3, 2-1-1) beat Lakeland (2-6-2, 0-3-1) 4-0 in Sandpoint.

• IEL: Tonya White scored a pair of second-half goals and 5A Post Falls (5-4-4) earned a 3-0 shutout win against 4A Moscow (4-7-3) in PF.

Volleyball

IEL: Allison Meehan had 18 assists and five aces and Ashley Jibby added 10 kills as 5A Post Falls rallied from a 1-0 deficit to beat 4A Moscow 24-26, 25-16, 25-17, 25-18 in Moscow. PF leads the 5A division by 2 1/2 games.
