Soudek’s goal sinks Spokane Chiefs

CHILLIWACK, B.C. – Robin Soudek scored on a power play 12:12 into the third period to lift the Chilliwack Bruins to a 2-1 victory over the Spokane Chiefs in Western Hockey League play on Tuesday night.

Defenseman Brandon Manning scored the Bruins’ first goal – also with a man advantage – making them 2 of 7 on power-play opportunities.

Spokane (1-3) finished 1 of 6 on the power play. Steven Kuhn scored at 4:42 in the second period with assists from Jared Cowen and Matt Marantz.

“When we were on the power play, they competed and were outstanding in areas in getting in front of the puck,” Spokane coach Don Nachbaur said. “The two goals they scored were a direct result of our guys not paying the price.”

Cowen was playing his first game with the Chiefs since being sent down by the NHL’s Ottawa Senators.

Braden Gamble stopped 27 shots in goal for Chilliwack (3-1). Spokane outshot the Bruins 11-6 in the final period.
