“The Nutcracker” – Ballet Memphis is holding auditions Oct. 15, 4:45-7:30 p.m., at Ballet Arts Academy, 109 W. Pacific Ave. Cost is $12, cash. Auditions for pointe roles are 4:45-5:45 p.m.; non-pointe roles are 5:45-7 p.m.; and a separate boys audition is 7-7:30 p.m. A warm-up is 3:30-4:30 p.m. Auditions are open to dancers ages 9 and older with at least three years of experience. Malidoma World Drumming Classes – Afro-Cuban Drumming: Study the rhythms for the conga drums from Africa to Cuba. Tuesdays, Oct. 12-Nov. 30, 6 p.m. West African Drumming: Explore this powerful style and play traditional rhythms on an African djembe drum. The history of each rhythm is covered as well. Thursdays, Oct. 14-Dec. 2, 6 p.m. Middle Eastern Drumming: Experience the beautiful drums of the Middle East and learn to play ancient rhythms.
