Veterans’ back pay deadline extended

The deadline for military service members, veterans and their beneficiaries to apply for retroactive stop-loss pay has been extended through Dec. 3, the U.S. Department of Defense announced.

Those whose service was involuntarily extended under the program between Sept. 11, 2001, and Sept. 30, 2009, are eligible for back pay of $500 for each full month on stop-loss service.

Nearly 80,000 people eligible for the payment have not applied, so Congress extended the deadline past the Oct. 21 cutoff.
