The latest designer store to open in the Valley caters to those with dogs and cats.

Pawpular Companions Boutique in Liberty Lake is 1,200-square-feet of storage and store along Country Vista Drive filled with foods, toys, apparel and other accessories for the doting and conscientious pet owner.

Customers will find accessories for their pet appropriate for the area, including canine hunting vests, life jackets for the boating best friend, and golf cart seats and vehicle car seats.

“What is most important to us is nutritious foods,” says Mara Crowell, who co-owns the shop with her husband Carl. She noted they carry top-selling, grain-free brands of food, including a dehydrated line and frozen raw foods. They also sell locally made dog treats.

Pawpular Companions Boutique opened Sept. 8 after the Crowells completed market research that confirmed the area would support such a store. With their love for animals and desire to own their own business, the pet shop fit the bill.

The couple has lived in Otis Orchards for about three years, Carl having retired from the construction industry in California; Mara leaving the corporate world and most recently her weekly commutes to the Puget Sound.

Their store has been well received thus far and both agree their product line is more complete and unlike anything they have found in the area.

“We have cool gear from camo to couture … We are unique, which makes us more competitive,” said Mara Crowell.

In addition to items for the outdoor working dog, they carry couture and such items as sports team jersey apparel, Halloween costumes just arriving, and even baby jogger-like strollers. Carl Crowell also builds custom dog houses.

Pets are welcome with their owners in the store. Customers may be greeted by Tess, the Crowell’s 12-year-old bichon.

An open house with food, entertainment and prize drawings is scheduled Wednesday from 4 to 6:30 p.m. and includes the entire complex of Country Vista Plaza tenants, as most have recently opened. In addition to Pawpular Companions Boutique, shopkeepers include Vehicle Wraps by Expect A Lot.com Signs, Stevens Naturopathic Center, Andrean Accounting, Hall Law Office and a Farmers Insurance Office.
